Sei unser Heil (Nunc dimittis) - Be our salvation
“For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have made ready before the face of all nations.”
– Lk 2,30 - 31
The praise song of Simeon – Nunc dimittis – is, next to Benedictus and Magnificat, one of the three transmitted cantica from the Gospel of Luke. Liturgically, it has its place in the compline, the evening prayers.
“Be our salvation” puts Nunc dimittis into music in form of a plain verse song, which is suitable for evening mass or devotion, Evensong or memorial service as it spreads a peaceful and soothing atmosphere of farewell.
Added to the lead sheet, I offer a three-part choir setting (SAM) by Marita Hasenmüller and an arrangement for vocals and flute (violin or other melody instrument) and piano accompaniment by Sylvia Jansen and thank both for being allowed to present these arrangements here.
